The Great Decorate

The Great Decorate, now in its fifth year, is a holiday tree decorating contest, that raises awareness and funds to support local foster teens that are close to aging-out of the foster care system. Each year, foster teen recipients are selected for The Great Decorate through a partnership with the Michigan Adoption Resource Exchange.

From November 24 through December 31, all are encouraged to visit participating restaurants and retailers throughout downtown Birmingham to view magnificently decorated holiday trees and decor. Vote for your favorite by donating online at www.thegreatdecorate.com or in-store.

100% OF DONATIONS GO DIRECTLY TO LOCAL FOSTER TEENS TO USE TOWARD THEIR FUTURE WHEN THEY TURN 18.

Each year in the United States, more than 26,500 fosted care teens age-out of the system, including 1,700 in Michigan alone. Since 2019, The Great Decorate has raised more than $186,000 to support foster teens in need in Michigan. The non-profit has also raised more than $35,000 to support local businesses through the contest.

The Great Decorate, now in its fifth year, is a holiday tree decorating contest, that raises awareness and funds to support local foster teens that are close to aging-out of the foster care system. Each year, foster teen recipients are selected for The Great Decorate through a partnership with the Michigan Adoption Resource Exchange.

From November 24 through December 31, all are encouraged to visit participating restaurants and retailers throughout downtown Birmingham to view magnificently decorated holiday trees and decor. Vote for your favorite by donating online at www.thegreatdecorate.com or in-store.

100% OF DONATIONS GO DIRECTLY TO LOCAL FOSTER TEENS TO USE TOWARD THEIR FUTURE WHEN THEY TURN 18.

Each year in the United States, more than 26,500 fosted care teens age-out of the system, including 1,700 in Michigan alone. Since 2019, The Great Decorate has raised more than $186,000 to support foster teens in need in Michigan. The non-profit has also raised more than $35,000 to support local businesses through the contest.

Birmingham Santa Walk

Register for the annual Birmingham Santa Walk and join us in welcoming Santa to town! The short walk through downtown will begin in the parking lot of the Surnow building, located at 320 Martin Street, and will include stops at various shops, before concluding at Santa's quaint home in Shain Park.

Enjoy Small Business Saturday festivities including free horse-drawn carriage rides and free hot chocolate. Parking is free all municipal structures all day.

The Great Decorate

The Great Decorate, now in its fifth year, is a holiday tree decorating contest, that raises awareness and funds to support local foster teens that are close to aging-out of the foster care system. Each year, foster teen recipients are selected for The Great Decorate through a partnership with the Michigan Adoption Resource Exchange.

NEW! BRRmingham Blast

Zip in to Downtown Birmingham on Saturday, January 27, from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., for the BRRmingham Blast – a brand new event featuring free entertainment, food trucks and activities for all ages! The event will take place along South Old Woodward Avenue from Maple Road to Brown Street (view map). Daxton Hotel, adjacent to the zip line, is offering free hot chocolate for kids, and specialty warm drinks, pastries and soup for purchase. 

Zip Line: Experience the ultimate rush of zip-lining across the sky on the award-winning Fly Wire Zip Line, the longest mobile zip line in Michigan! Thrill seekers of all ages are invited to ride the 300-foot-long zip line free of charge during the event. Participants must weigh a minimum of 40lbs. and a maximum of 225lbs. and be at least 6 years of age to ride the zip line. Daxton Hotel, adjacent to the zip line, is offering free hot chocolate for kids, and specialty warm drinks, pastries and soup for purchase. 

Food Trucks: A delicious variety of food trucks will be serving up savory favorites and warm sweets for purchase, including Sushi Kabar, Famous Hamburgers, House of Mac, Detroit BBQ Company, S'mores & Coffee, The Little Donut Factory, Pull On This Chimney Cakes and Motor City Pasty Company. Relax in the warming tent, set with tables and chairs, to enjoy meals with family and friends. For those who prefer to dine-in, explore a list of downtown restaurants.

Marshmallow Roasting and Activities: Gather around the fires for free marshmallow roasting, and visit the Kids' Zone tent for crafts during the event.

Retail Sales: Downtown Birmingham’s many local and national retailers will be open during the event, so be sure to schedule some time to shop post-holiday sales and new 2024 merchandise! Explore a full list of downtown retailers.

Spring Stroll

The Spring Stroll event, presented by Warby Parker, features local retailers and restaurants, with special giveaways and more. The event will take place between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. with staggered start times.

Registration is required - click here to register.  

Registered attendees should arrive at the designated check-in location during their assigned time to receive an event bag, coloring activity sheet and list of participating merchants. Attendees are invited to visit the participating merchants of their choice, collect giveaways and complete the activity sheet. Completed activity sheets may be returned to the event check-in for a prize, and will be displayed around town.

It's show time! Join us at Booth Park for an outdoor movie night featuring Shrek! As always, the event is FREE. Pre-show entertainment begins at 6:30 p.m; movie at 7:30 p.m.

The Woodward Dream Cruise will roll into town on Saturday, August 17 bringing thousands of classic cars and more than one million people from all over the world.
